A Country Music Joint

Last Friday morning, Willie Nelson and some of his entourage were wheeling down the highway from California to his ranch in Austin, Texas. The country singer was in his bus named the Honeysuckle Rose III when it had to stop at a border control check. A certain aromatic smell emanated from within the bus and when the border police conducted a search they found six ounces of cannabis inside. Willie admitted that he owned the pot and was duly arrested, charged and taken to a local jail. He was released on bail and now faces up to three months in the joint. It’s not the first time the 77-year-old musician has been in trouble with the law and it’s unlikely it’ll be the last. Maybe one day he’ll write a song about the experience. The song Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In) was written by Mickey Newbury and was originally a hit for Kenny Rogers & the First Edition in 1968. Willie’s version appears on his Rainbow Connection album from 2001. According to Willie’s harmonica player, Mickey Raphael, the Texan’s current condition is quite good. “He said he feels great,” Raphael admitted. “He lost six ounces.”
